9.5 Huawei All-Flash Array Doubles Database Performance of Shanghai
Customs
Shanghai Customs is the largest port for foreign trade in China. In 2013, Shanghai Customs
processed over 200,000 customs clearance applications. Each midnight, the system spent up to 7.5
hours collecting and analyzing the applications generated on the previous day, almost completely
occupying the data analysis and backup time window from 00:30 to 08:00. This time-consuming
process delayed the customers clearance service on the present day. In September 2013, Shanghai
Customs deployed Huawei's all-flash array Dorado5100 to accelerate its database. The time spent
on data collection and analysis shrank from 7.5 hours to 3.6 hours without changing upper-layer
applications. With a doubled efficiency, the customs clearance service on the second day now
proceeds smoothly.
9.6 Huawei All-Flash Array Helps Germany's GEMA Improve Operating
Efficiency
Germany GEMA is the largest musical rights publisher in Europe. GEMA operated its businesses
mainly on an online music platform, which ran on an Oracle database and employed a traditional
disk array. The platform saved 64,000 entries of property rights information and information about
millions of users. In 2013, GEMA's businesses grew quickly, but the database's performance
became increasingly lower, not only impeding GEMA's operating efficiency, but also affecting
customer satisfaction. In early 2014, GEMA replaced its existing disk array with Huawei's
all-flash array Dorado5100, which boosted the database performance by 7 times and greatly
improved customer satisfaction, without changing the upper-layer applications.

because of its excellent audio/video experience, sound security, and centralized, unified O&M. In
2014, Huawei will deliver over 10,000 cloud desktops, which will save more than 30% of TCO
than TVTC's existing PC systems.
9.8 Huawei Cloud Computing Solution Builds a Cloud IT Resource Pool for
State Grid
State Grid is the largest electric power company in the world. In 2013, State Grid had over 62,000
information systems. However, its stovepipe construction mode resulted in a server utilization of
less than 30%. Resource waste, repeated procurement, and growing energy consumption became
pronounced problems. To resolve these problems, State Grid introduced the cloud-centric concept
of "building centralized IT infrastructure service" and started looking for virtualization software.
In July 2013, HUAWEI FusionSphere stood out among competitor products with the highest test
results (performance, pressure, and stability), thanks to its comprehensive computing, storage, and
network virtualization and E2E software and hardware optimization capabilities. Finally, State
Grid chose Huawei as one of its two virtualization software suppliers. In the next two years, State
Grid will deploy Huawei's FusionSphere systems in data centers of its six Northeaster and
Northwestern provincial companies. The FusionSphere systems can cloudify up to over 30,000
servers, improve server resource utilization by 30%, reduce new server purchase by over 30%
YOY, and save 27 million yuan on energy consumption.
