Cuba is located just ninety miles from the US, but is largely unknown to the majority of Americans.

Since 1959, the Cuban Revolution has also greatly affected Cuban culture, down to the most basic aspects of daily life.

Despite the lack of luxuries, Cubans are proud of their free education and public health systems

International Symposium of Social Communication – Organized in Santiago by the Universidad de Oriente and the Centro de Lingüística Aplicada.

Much of Cuban culture, especially Cuban music, is instantly recognized throughout the world.

But one has to be there to experience the warm and friendly Cuban people, who want to share with visitors their real image of Cuba to the sound of son, the intrinsically Cuban rhythm.

Revolution• Cuban music and dance• Cuban literature• The Spanish linguistic variation in Cuba• The Education system• Popular culture. Some of the lectures and site visits will be conducted in Spanish and others in English.
