Ci Lan Sacred Tree Garden is one of a few natural cypress forests in Taiwan. Being a tropical cloud forest, it is characterized by a frequent low-level cloud cover and an abundance of mosses covering the ground and vegetation. It is also known for having around one hundred ancient Taiwan Red Cypresses and Formosan Cypresses. These two species are now listed endangered by IUCN.
