Although modern ease of access to technology enablesmany of us to obsessively document our lives, much ofthe captured digital content is often disregarded andforgotten on storage devices, with no concerns of costor decay. Can we design technology that helps peoplebetter appreciate captured memories? What wouldpeople do if they only had one more chance to relivepast memories? In this paper, we present a prototypedesign, PY-ROM, a matchstick-like video recording andstorage device that burns itself away after being used. This encourages designers to consider lifecycles andhuman-computer relationships by integrating physicalproperties into digitally augmenting everyday objects.

• 越容易得到的事物 ,越不懂珍惜。

• Very often, people do not

• know how precious something is until it is gone. People

• do not pay attention or cherish things that are easy to

• obtain, because they come easily.

• we present a prototype design named

• PY-ROM. “Pyr” means fire in Greek,

• and “ROM” standsfor

• “Real Ordinary Memory.”

• more is more

• less is more

• 過多的記錄,往往被遺忘• 老照片,老相本,珍惜

if youonly have one more chance to relive past memories, what would you do?what would you do?what would you do?

five suitable attributes ofmatchsticks for our design to bring the concept of “lessis more” to media capture:is more” to media capture:is more” to media capture:

• 1.Natural and intuitive interaction

• 2.Connection with tradition

• 3.One-time use

• 4.Suitable burn time

• Portability

One-time Use Matchstick Design

Figure 3 shows the prototype design of our matches inan ordinary matchbox. Each matchstick has twosymmetrical ends: one for recording (orange) and onefor playing (green).

conclusionWe would like to usethis example to bring designers another element of“appreciation” to consider when designing augmentedeveryday objects.

only one-time use, which encourages people toappreciate their important moments and brings moremeaning to their everyday lives
