Solid one-piece enclosed headstock has high precision preloaded angular contact ball bearing spindle with 5C collet capacity. Infinitely variable spindle speeds from 0 - 4000 RPM
The specially designed bed ways are made of hardened and ground alloy steel that resist wear. The angular guide ways prevent chips from falling upon them. No slots or under cuts to wedge chips.
The carriage has three full bearing surface, on the top of the bed, and on the front and rear slides. This provides maximum rigidity for utmost accuracy. The ATV-618 TR pressure lubricates all three of these slides together.
Electronic vari-speed system with inverter infinitely variable spindle speeds can be instantly set from 0 to 4000 RPM while the spindle is running. The actual RPM is viewed in an easy to read digital display enclosed in the speed contol box.

The lever collet closer provides fast chucking. The lever control end of the closer assembly is balanced and rides on a precision bearing. Collet tension is instantly adjustable throught the rull range from light to heavy holding power without the use of tools.
The dual gearbox provides high accuracy english or metric thread cut-ting. The gearbox and lead screw operate only when used for threading operations. With standard change gears. Pitches are available from 275 to 2.7 mm. Optional change gears available at extra cost.
Independent Electronic Variable Feeds. The drive for the carriage is independent from the cross slide and provides complete freedom of operation. The feed can be changed instantly at any time. Simply turn a knob even when the tool is cutting without wasting valuable production time stopping the machine to shift gears.
The quick-acting tool post slide for threading is standard eqipment. T the end of the threading cut, the threading tool is instantly cleared from the work by the operator for the return of the carriage to the next cut. This is accomplished by means of the ball-handled lever actuating the tool post slide entirely independent of the tool post slide feed screw.

The bed ways are solid hardened and ground alloy tool steel. There is no weakness of a center slot. There is one precision straight edge for aligning and anchor attachments. The bed is easy to keep clean, will resist wear, and chips cannot fail upon the angular guide ways.
The cross slide base provides the needed rigidity when forming, cutting off, or turning with the straight and taper turning slide attachment. The cross slide is easily operated by a hand lever. Two threaded feed stops are provided for fine adjustment of each tool position.
The unit provides variable speeds from 230 to 3,500 RPM. To change spindle speed, start the spindle and push the faster or slower button. This will increase or decrease the spindle speed. High and low Spindle speed setting are instantly available with a lever operated two speed motor.
The preloaded ball bearing turret head mounting, eliminates all play between the turret head and turret slide. The index pin is hardened and ground, and is mounted between hardened and ground preloaded roller bearings for ease in operation. The turret head and each of the six independent adjustable stops are automatically indexed to the next position.

The high accuracy preloaded ball bearing spindle is mounted in the soild, one-piece totally enclosed headstock housing for maximum rigidity and sustained accuracy.
The lever control ended of the closer assembly is balanced and rides on a precision bearing. Movement to the left closes the collet, and to the right opens the collet.
The bed ways are solid hardened and ground steel. There is no weak-ness of a center slot. The bed is easy to keep clean, will resist wear, and chips cannot fall upon the angular slide ways.
Spindle speeds are provided of 750, 1,800 and 3,000 RPM through an endless V-belt and three step pullet arrangement. Spindle speeds are quickly changed. Raise the pulley and belt cover as shown. Move the lever horizontally to the extreme left. This will slide the motor pulley to the “belt release” position. Change belt to the pulley step desired and return the lever to the extreme right or “belt tight“ position.

By moving the locking lever approximately 90° the precision ground, eight station turret, automatically indexes one space. Return lever to its original position and the turret is rigidity locked ready for the next operation. This automatic indexing feature saves time and can increase production.
The longitudinal movement of the carriage is controlled by the stop drum. There are eight adjustable stops for positioning the eight - sta-tion turret. Additional clearance in the bed has been provided so the operator can rapidly index the stop drum to desired position.
The independent electric variable feed for carriage and cross slide pro-vides complete freedom of operation. The rate of feed can be changed instantly at any time, even when the tool is cutting without wasting valuable production time stopping the machine to shift gears as is the case with slow conventional lathes.
Spindle rotation and speed range can quickly be selected by mov-ing the control levers shown in the illustration to the proper position. Placing the forward reverse lever at the center position automatically actuates the solenoid operated spindle brake.

Optional Accessories
the recessing tool is used to perform recessing work,
back facing or chamfering operations in the same
setting of the work as other turret opertations . The
0.22”(5.5 mm) travel either side of center is governed
by adjustable stops. The recessing tool head takes the
0.63”(16 mm) diameter shank tool holders.
The Micrometer carriage stop is a useful accessory
when producing parts with exact shoulder lengths or
when facing to close tolerences. The indicator reads in
0.01mm increments. the micrometer reads in 0.01 mm
increments.
Long cylindrical work held between centers requires a
steady rest to prevent such work from springing away
from a cutting tool. A steady rest is also used when
there are machining operations to be performed on the
end of work which prohibits the use of tailstock center.
The steady rest has a maximum capacity of 2.99”(76mm)
The carriage length indicator permits full carriage travel
allowing for “close to spindle“ machining. The carriage
length indicator is a needed accessory when
producing parts to exact shoulder lengths or when
facing too close tolerances. The fully jeweled dial
indicator reads directly in 0.01 mm increments with a
range of 0.39”(10 mm). The long rod allows the
indicator to be extended to a distance of 6.5” (165 mm)

The turning or boring of precision tapers is readily
accomplished by the use of a taper turning attachment.
the taper turning attacment is based on the sine bar
principle swiveling the guide bar from one end.
Graduations for setting guide bar are in degrees. The
taper turning attachment mounts directly on the back of
the lathe bed and is adjustable along the bed to suit the
work.
This transparent plastic chip and coolant shield is
optional equipment. The hinged section is adjustable to
left or right to suit work requirements. Extended
sections offer additional splash prevention.

When you have work that is small in diameter in
relation to length, it may spring away from the cutting
tool. In such cases, the follow rest can be applied to the
carriage and will assure you of accurate work.
